やった! I finished the both seasons of Jun's dramas! :D It wasn't easy watching it because I had a lot on my plate when I was watching it. Maybe you're wondering why I couldn't choose a better time where I don't have things to do but the thing is, I don't have a vacation that's like a vacation. :( Things was just not the way I imagined it would be but its okay!
So back to the drama, 99.9 Criminal Lawyer is about Miyama Hiroto (Matsumoto Jun), a lawyer (of course LOL) who seeks the remaining truth of 0.1% in Japan's conviction rate of 99.9%. He was scouted by the owner of Madarame Law Firms and thus started working there as a lawyer. He has a weird way of going through the cases, him being thorough about everything including the victim's life- starting from when the victim was born. Working in the same firm is Sada Atsuhiro (Kagawa Teruyuki), which takes on civil cases and is always concerned about money and connections. Miyama, Sada, Tachibana Ayano (Eikura Nana), which was replaced by Ozaki Maiko (Kimura Fumino) in the second season, and the rest of the Criminal Law Department work together to solve cases and give justice to their clients.

Now, to my thoughts. My thoughts in this drama is pure amazement and enjoyment. Why? Because I'm an avid fan of lawyer/detective dramas and I have watched a handful of it. I was so focused while watching this because if you don't focus, you'll feel like you'll miss something, even the smallest of a detail. The thing about this is that it doesn't make you feel bored, even if it's long (not that long, but the enough kind of long). The details in it is also many, but you won't have information overload as you mainly focus on the main points.
The chemistry between the casts are good! They have this harmonious atmosphere around them even though, sometimes, they bicker (mostly it's Sada & Miyama or Miyama & Atsushi). Their bickering are sometimes funny, but at times, it creates a tense atmosphere. The casts' united feelings creates a certain mood that they want to portray, and being able to really set a specific mood for a certain scene is hard if the casts aren't in the same track as each other. Here, they really showed that they can are in the same track and have the same goal.
The casts have a good knack for comedy, too! There are many scenes where I had a good laugh and I still remember them until now. Special mention to the dad jokes that was said throughout the whole two seasons! 🤣 Especially to Miyama! I'm quite into dad jokes and I used those to my friends. Some laughed but most of them told me to "stop watching shows and dramas that has a low sense of humor."
There is no romance in this show and I already expected it. It's not the normal lawyer/detective dramas where this and this gets to spend time together and slowly develops feelings for each other. This one's purely professional with a touch of comedy and mysteriousness. I like how they didn't make it that predictable, because as a fan of lawyer/detective dramas, I really like solving the cases alongside with the characters. The mysteriousness surrounding the cases and their client really makes me happy as it just tells me that watching this will be a ride. 😁
The plot is pretty solid. The flow is just the correct one and its not rushed. Each episode has its own story and you won't get bored with it because it has its own mystery surrounding it. How everything flows is just the perfect pace for it. You'll get curious with it and keep on watching. IMO, I felt that the second season was more solid than the first. But if the first season wasn't solid, it wouldn't get a second season, right? So let's just say that both are solid and different in their own ways!
The first season, for me, felt like a stepping stone for the second season. You'll naturally ask for a second season in this drama because of the unsolved case of Miyama's father, which later gets resolved in the second season. The episode count of 1st season was 1 episode greater than the 2nd. The first season also has Tachibana Ayano, and the 2nd season features Ozaki Maiko, which replaced Tachibana as she has gone overseas, according to the drama. But at the second season, you'll see Tachibana in Miyama's cousin's restaurant.
There are no things that I still have in mind other than "This drama is really great." I don't have those leftover questions as everything got solved at the end. There are also no plot holes or things like that so it kept my mind at ease after watching it. I also expect myself to re-watch this when I don't have anything to watch or if I'm up for some detective drama.
(Everything here is my opinion! The description of the drama also came from my own understanding. Just a heads up!)
